Movia 'Veliko' Rdeče, Brda, Slovenia 2016

The Movia winery has been in the capable hands of the Kristančič family since 1820, although the estate itself was founded in 1700. The winery is located in western Slovenia’s Goriška Brda region right on the border with Italy, and half of the estate’s 18 hectares of vines actually lie on the other side of the border. The generous Mediterranean climate here is ideal for making delicious wines with warm sunny days cooled by breezes from the nearby sea.

This spectacular red wine is a Bordeaux-style blend composed primarily of Merlot along with a smaller amount of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are farmed organically and harvested as late as possible to ensure optimum maturity. Fermentation is carried out using wild yeasts and is carried out in barriques. In total the wine is matured in French oak barriques for 6 years.
