The Ceniza vineyard (Spanish for ash) is located in the Coombsville AVA on soils composed of volcanic ash and fertile loam. The vines here are 18 years old, and it is farmed organically. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Ceniza Vineyard was aged for 21 months in French oak barrels, 70% new oak. It displays a deep garnet-purple color and vivacious notes of crushed blackberries, kirsch and mulberries with suggestions of eucalyptus, dark chocolate and pencil lead plus a touch of cedar chest. Medium to full-bodied, crunchy black and red fruit flavors exhilarate the palate with a racy backbone of freshness and beautifully poised, fine-grained tannins, finishing long with a bright, cheery skip in its step. 150 cases were made.
