Clos Figueres Priorat, Spain 2010 1.5-Liter
94 Points Wine Enthusiast
Reedy cherry and berry aromas are smoky and schisty, with a high level of purity and complexity. This wine is tannic but in great shape, with lockdown structure. Schisty plum, cassis, black cherry and cocoa flavors finish firm and mildly peppery tasting, with oodles of class and aging potential. Drink through 2022.

Full ruby. Deeply pitched cherry compote, cassis and incense aromas are lifted by a bright mineral nuance and a hint of peppery spices. Rich yet lively on the palate, offering bitter cherry and dark berry liqueur flavors and an exotic touch of five-spice powder. Clings with excellent focus and persistence on the penetrating finish, which features intense dark fruit and floral character and dusty, building tannins. By all means have some patience with this wine: it should be hitting its stride somewhere around age 10 to 12.

The 2010 Clos Figueres is a serious cuvee of old vine Carinena and Garnacha complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Mourvedre (Monastrell) fermented in open oak barrels where it aged for some 16 months. It shows good transparency of aromas, with ripe blackberries, morello cherries and raspberries coated by fine cinnamon, vanilla and a lactic hint. The palate is medium to full-bodied with sharp acidity, very good purity of flavors and a long aftertaste, quite fine and elegant. Drink 2014-2020.
